Coordination Meeting on Strengthening Girls’ Safe School Journey in District Hangu
A coordination meeting was convened at the office of the District Education Officer (Female), Hangu, with the participation of the KPRAP, Khwendo Kor, DEO (F), DDEO, and SDEO to advance efforts toward ensuring a safer and more inclusive school journey for girls.
The discussion focused on reinforcing a gender-sensitive approach across the education system, with particular emphasis on the effective implementation and compliance of the Code of Conduct (CoC). Participants highlighted the critical role of institutional accountability mechanisms, especially the Grievance Redress Committees (GRCs), in safeguarding students and addressing concerns in a timely and transparent manner.
The meeting underscored the need to strengthen GRC functionality through targeted sensitization and capacity-building initiatives. In addition, the importance of structured driver training programs was emphasized to ensure adherence to safety protocols and respectful conduct during student transportation.
As an outcome, a clear roadmap was agreed upon, including:
* Rollout of driver training sessions focused on safety and child protection standards
* Enhanced GRC sensitization to improve responsiveness and trust
* Streamlining coordination among schools and stakeholders to institutionalize safe, gender-responsive practices
This initiative reflects a continued commitment to creating a secure, dignified, and enabling learning environment for girls, aligned with the objectives of the KPRAP- World Bank-assisted project.
